Announcing First Nations Principles for Health-Related Legislation in BC

The First Nations Health Council is pleased to share a significant milestone: the endorsement of First Nations Principles for Health-Related Legislation: A Principles Document by First Nations Chiefs and political leaders in British Columbia (BC).

Developed through multi-year engagement with First Nations Chiefs, leaders, and health representatives, this document is a tool that reflects a unified vision for how the provincial and federal governments must work alongside First Nations in shaping future health laws.

The principles are intended to guide the First Nations Health Council in its advocacy and to inform provincial and federal government partners when they seek to develop, amend and implement health laws that impact First Nations in BC. It is also a tool for Chiefs and leaders to use when engaging directly, as rights holders, with BC and Canada on health-related legislation. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all Chiefs, leaders, and participants whose guidance, insights, and contributions helped shape these principles. Your involvement through engagement sessions, discussions, and shared perspectives has been essential in grounding this work in the collective voice and priorities.
